"Better" Consumerism?

Today, GOOD features a story about a new company attempting to harness product placement’s subliminal power for sustainability. Cool idea for sure, but will “green” product placement just reinforce my generation’s belief that we can simply buy our way out of our environmental problems? At the same time, I’ve always felt that blaming the consumer is a huge cop-out. What’s a white-guilt-ridden eco-enthusiast Angelino gal to do?
